The San Francisco 49ers have ended a six-year playoff drought, despite losing to the Atlanta Falcons 29-22 in a wild finish, allowing 12 points in the last two seconds.
Right, 12 points in the last two seconds.
Julio Jones got a 5-yard pass from Matt Ryan two seconds ahead to take Atlanta 23-22 in the lead.
The wide-angle receiver Olamide Zaccheaus fixed a bug in the end zone when the 49ers missed the kick-off return when they gave in on a futile attempt to score on a dazzling return.
The 49ers (11-3) made it to the NFC playoffs minutes later when the Dallas Cowboys scored their 44-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
The Cowboys' victory also brought the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks into the playoffs.
Previously, the New England Patriots had taken their eleventh playoff spot in a row, although Tom Brady performed another pass in pedestrian traffic.
