Stop worrying about Olympic qualifier Eumir Felix Marcial in the middleweight division. He stands by his commitment and keeps his agreement with the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (Abap).
Marcial, who booked a ticket to the Olympics in Amman, Jordan earlier this year, denied ongoing reports that a gap had developed between him and Abap.
This was clarified by Abap Secretary General Ed Picson in an official statement released yesterday after lunch.
Picson said the 25-year-old Marcial has expressed his highest appreciation for the officials of the national sports association for boxing.
Picson said Marcial vowed never to do anything to endanger his relationship with Abap.
Here is the rest of the Abap statement:
The 25-year-old Pug from Zamboangueño said that although he had received advice from several people outside the organization, he assured that Abap should be his partner on his trip to the Olympic Games.
Marcial said Abap President Ricky Vargas and Picson help him negotiate with professional boxing managers and ensure that any commitments that are made do not hamper his Olympic endeavors.
“Alam ko naman na ang ikabubuti ko ang hangad nina
Mr. Vargas with Sir Ed. Kanilang pag-aaralan ang mga alok, at ilalatag nila sa akin ang mga iyon at nasa akin pa rin ang huling desisyon, ”said the boxer, who is an Air Force pilot from the Philippine Air Force.
Picson, for his part, assured that they will not stand in the way of Marcial's professional boxing plans.
————————- Picson said: “Mr. Vargas and I spoke to the renowned boxing manager Shelly Finkel and our conversation was open, warm and informative. Of course we told him that we would also like to hear from other interested parties. "
"If we were to stop Marcial from exploring professional boxing opportunities, why should we speak to those who are interested in him? We just want to make sure that Eumir receives the best possible offer and that it doesn't conflict with the Olympic goal, ”said the boxing officer.
In a lengthy telephone conversation with sports psychologist Marcus Manalo von Picson and Abap, the somber Zamboangueño apologized if his conversations with people outside Abap were misinterpreted by some people.
"Nag text na nga ako kay Mr. Vargas para mag-sorry. Hindi ko talaga magagawa na masaktan ang mga opisyal at mga kasamahan ko sa Abap, ”emphasized Marcial.
