MANILA, Philippines – Phoenix & # 39; oppressed striker Calvin Abueva tried to prove that he has changed for the better and is committed to creating a more positive environment everywhere.
Phoenix head coach Louie Alas said Abueva was eager to take part in the company's social responsibility programs and to conduct personal contact activities himself.
Alas said it was Abueva's way of showing the PBA and its stakeholders that he had left his arduous path and that he wanted to return to the league as a better man.
Calvin Abueva returns to Phoenix practice despite a permanent ban
"He is personally responsible for public relations, especially at Christmas, and he has pictures and videos to support everything," Alas said in a phone interview with Inquirer Wednesday.
"Not only does he want to return to the PBA, he also takes his own initiatives to show that he deserves to come back."
Abueva was suspended indefinitely in June when he was dealing with TNT import Terrence Jones and another verbal war with Bobby Ray Parks Jr.'s girlfriend when the rookie was still at Blackwater.
Abueva was allowed to return to the Fuel Masters training sessions at the end of September, but is not receiving any Phoenix salary due to the suspension.
Since Abueva is still outside, Phoenix is looking for other players who can be reinforced.
However, the former international remained steadfast in supporting the communities and also received financial support from the team, his teammates and also from his friends from Pampanga.
"He is financially in a difficult position because of the ban, but Phoenix still gives him a lot to keep the activities going, but management can't give him the full salary, so he goes to guest performances where he makes some money ", he said Unfortunately Abueva helped him with his own activities in Las Piñas.
"I had a few outreach programs here in Las Piñas and he was with me and RR [Garcia] and Calvin was out there distributing food and teaching kids basketball and I'm very happy with him," said Alas.
Abueva has so far only returned to team exercises, says PBA chief
With the end of 2019 and the beginning of the new year, Alas hopes that the League can finally bring Abueva back to the League.
Unfortunately, who was always an exemplary family man, said Abueva did everything to be a responsible father to his five children.
“I hope that Calvin will come back from the lock not only for reasons of competition for Phoenix, but also for humanitarian reasons because he has a family and five children. He has a great responsibility and does everything to fulfill it. "
