SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors experience a level of mediocrity that cannot be seen in the tenure of their experienced coaches. Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr don't let their teams throw in the towel.
That was very clear when they plunged into the extension.
DeMar DeRozan had 24 points and the San Antonio Spurs fled Tuesday night with a 117-113 overtime victory over the understaffed Golden State Warriors.
San Antonio improved to 4: 1 in extra time this season. Four of these games have arrived at home.
"It's more of a familiar area now," DeRozan said. "So we came out and sanded it."
Dejounte Murray scored seven of his 15 extra-time points when San Antonio (14-18) won for the eighth time in 13 games and ended the year under 0.500 for the first time since 1996.
"We're just trying to stay in the moment," said LaMarcus Aldridge. "Watch the movie and see what we need to do to get better and focus on it. Just build from there."
Golden State lost its second loss immediately after winning streak in four games.
The Warriors – long without stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson – were without starters D’Angelo Russell and Willie Cauley-Stein.
At 9-26 years, Golden State has lost more games than in the last five seasons under Kerr. The Warriors won 436 games and three championships in Kerr's first five seasons.
"The first five years were exceptional, they were not normal," said Kerr. “So I'm trying to look at things from a realistic perspective. What happens this year is more like what NBA teams normally do. "
Nevertheless, Kerr found a ray of hope in the revival of the careers of Glenn Robinson III, Alec Burks and Marquis Criss.
Burks had 28 points and Robinson added 25, including 15 in the first quarter.
Draymond Green had 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in 36 minutes.
"We have a productive season; we just don't have a successful season," said Kerr. "I enjoyed coaching this team, I just told them. I like to come in every day and work with these guys because they play hard, play for each other and are interested in this game. So I'm not too worried about the recording. "
The teams exchanged the lead four times and were tied twice in the last 3 minutes of regulation.
DeRozan's 17-foot run, 17.1 seconds ahead, gave San Antonio a 100 to 98 lead, but Robinson joined him eight seconds later with a 21-foot run prepared by Green’s Shovel Pass has been. Aldridge missed a 15-foot boat at the end of the regulation.
Aldridge added 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Patty Mills had 18 points.
Murray was in the 3 against 3 extension, including a 3-pointer, and had a theft and an assist.
"He came out big, but I always expect Dejounte to be big for us," said Spurs Guard Bryn Forbes.
Golden State had a 51:42 lead in the second quarter when San Antonio was without a goal for three minutes. Aldridge ended the drought with an out-of-balance 3-pointer when the shot clock had run out.
The Warriors were 12 for 27 with 3 hands, including consecutive 3s, to open the second half and increase their advantage to 61-53 in the third quarter.
