The Philippine Football Association (PFF) was granted the hosting rights for the 2020 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women's Championship to maintain the success of women's football in the country. Annual competition hosted by Thailand in Chonburi last August.
The AFF gave the country the go-ahead to host the tournament during its recent council meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam, attended by PFF President Mariano "Nonong" Araneta and Secretary General Edwin Gastanes.
"It is a great honor for PFF to host the upcoming AFF Women's Championship 2020," said Araneta.
“Women's football was in the spotlight due to the success of the national team. This is a perfect opportunity for local fans to watch and support the Filipino team fighting for pride. "
The Malditas finished fourth last year and hoped for a podium place at the Southeast Asian Games 2019 earlier this month. Coach Let Dimzon's team lost in the semifinals to eventual gold medalist Vietnam before beating 1: 3 in the battle for third place. 2 defeat suffered.
