MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra returned to his deadly form after a fiery first quarter to flog NorthPort (113-88) and 1-1 in the PBA Governors' Cup on Monday night at the Araneta Coliseum in To reach Cubao.
The crowd's favorites recovered from an embarrassing defeat on Sunday when they fired on all cylinders. The backspace duo from Stanley Pringle and LA Tenorio led with 23 and 20 points.
"I thought we got into the playoffs with a lot of intensity this time," said Ginebra's coach Tim Cone.
“Today was much better than (Sunday). We shot the ball well and we had a good defensive game, ”he added.
Four more were thrown in double digits, including Greg Slaughter and Jeff Chan, who came from the bank and scored 16 and 12 points, respectively. Justin Brownlee added 15 while Scottie Thompson slumped 13 points.
Import Michael Qualls, who contributed significantly to the triumph of the Batang Piers in Game 1, only came into his groove after half of the competition and ended the competition at 20.
Sean Anthony and Christian Standhardinger scored 19 and 10 in NorthPort's defeat.
The two teams break the tie on Wednesday evening in the Big Dome.
