MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxers Jhunriel Ramonal and Rey Loreto had different fates at the end of the decade when they fought for regional titles in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Jhunriel Ramonal needed only one round to send his Japanese opponent Yusaku Kuga and to win the vacant super bantamweight title of the WBO Asia Pacific at the Ota City General High School in Tokyo.
30-year-old Ramonal (17-8-6) took his third consecutive win and extended his unbeaten run to five games.
Kuga (19-4-1) meanwhile saw his winning streak interrupted in three fights.
However, Rey Loreto did not have the same fate after falling in five laps against Ginjiro Shigeoka in the fight for the WBO Asia Pacific championship in the minimum weight.
Loreto (15-15) suffered his second loss in four games, while 20-year-old Shigeoka, nine years his junior, celebrated his fifth win in as many games.
