MANILA, Philippines – Filipino sensation Kai Sotto became the latest prospect to skip college and take the NBA G League route.
The 7-foot-2 Sotto joins the new G League squad in Southern California and works with other preparation stars Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
"Kai Sotto – a 7-foot-2 center in the Philippines – has decided to skip college and will be the first international draft to sign a contract in the NBA G League pro program, the sources say by @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium, Charania tweeted on Monday.
The Fil-American Green, the top 2020 recruit, was the first to join the G League development program, despite having offers from several high-profile US NCAA Division 1 schools.
Sotto, who turned 18 on Monday, ranks 62nd among the 100 best high school players from ESPN in class 2020 and 11th in his position.
The former Ateneo high school star has been training in the United States since last year to become the first thoroughbred Filipino to reach the NBA.
