MANILA, Philippines – The Nazareth School of National University found its way to a second consecutive basketball title for UAAP high school boys after they won Far Eastern University-Diliman (87-80) in game 2 of their final series on Monday held at Filoil Flying V center in San Juan.
The impressive Bullpups, together with the NU Lady Bulldogs and the Ateneo Blue Eagles, achieved a 16-0 win this season.
It was a wire-to-wire win for the Bulldogs, but the win was not a breeze after the Baby Tamaraws fought back and pulled within seven, 79-72, after falling around 17.
"It just feels great because all our hard work has paid off," said NU coach Goldwin Monteverde, who is also in charge of the men's basketball team at the school.
"We've kept our focus and player energy throughout the year," he added.
The senior graduates Kevin Quiambao, Carl Tamayo and Gerry Abadiano delivered the decisive baskets in the last four minutes, which sealed the fifth title of the Bullpups in nine years.
Tamayo, who was named Finals MVP, produced another masterpiece with 26 points and 22 rebounds.
