After an impressive show at the last 30 Southeast Asian Games, Margielyn Didal will compete against the continent's best skateboarders the next time Tagaytay City hosts the Asian Championships in April. Skateboard chief Monty Mendigoria announced the hosts of the country and said they would work out an opportunity to make the tournament one of the qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
"All 2020 Olympic qualifiers have already been determined, but we will try to make it an Olympic ranking event," said Mendigoria during the Go For Gold Thanksgiving Party for the medalists of the last SEA games.
According to Mendegoria, there are seven other qualifying tournaments for the Tokyo Summer Games, in which Didal is expected to land a place.
Didal, one of the Go For Gold athletes and reigning Asian Games champion, won two gold medals at SEA Games – the Women's Road and the game of skate events.
A total of 46 medals were won by Filipino athletes who were supported by the Go For Gold program.
"There is nothing better than seeing how our athletes succeed in international tournaments like the SEA Games," said Go For Gold's godfather Jeremy Go. Filipino bets won six gold medals, four silver medals and one bronze medal at the SEA Games. INQ
