MANILA, Philippines – James Yap has received several PBA titles and MVP awards.
But as he approaches the end of his career, the Star Swingman hopes for another performance before putting on his sneakers.
“This is my third with Rain or Shine, so I hope to be a champion here at Rain or Shine. Even just a championship, ”Yap said in Filipino in the 2OT podcast with Carlo Pamintuan and Magoo Marjon.
The 38-year-old Yap won seven titles with the Purefoods franchise, including a 2014 Grand Slam.
But since he was traded to the Elasto Painters, Yap has never been in the championship round again.
Last year's Philippine Cup was the next point at which Yap ended the drought in the final, but Rain or Shine was unable to close his former team Magnolia in game 7 of the semifinals, although at some point in the game he was 17 Points lead.
Yap said winning a title with Rain or Shine is also something he will dedicate to the team's late matriarch, Margaret Yu, the mother of co-team owner Raymund and one of his long-time enthusiastic supporters.
