MANILA, Philippines – The University of Santo Tomas vigorously joined the circle of the after a complete dismantling of Far Eastern University (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) at the UAAP Season 82 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday Mall of Asia Arena winner.
The Golden Tigresses recovered from a five-set loss to the National University and came third with Lady Tamaraws, defending champion Ateneo, and the University of the Philippines with 1-1 records.
The women of gold built an early 9-2 lead in the third game and crossed much of the time, with substitutes having the chance to end the match for the Golden Tigresses.
The FEU made the matter interesting with a 6-0 run to get within six (23: 17) before Ysa Jimenez jumped in and brought UST 24-17 in the lead. Babylove Barbon then ended it with a quick kill from the center.
"We recovered today and had a good service game. Although there were inevitable errors, we were able to correct them," said UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes in Filipino.
"This was a total team effort so we could do it in straight lines."
Eya Laure ended the UST with 16 points, while the older sister EJ added 12.
Jeanette Villareal and Grace Carandang had seven points each for the FEU.
