Filipino-American security guard Mikey Williams, who misses a large chunk of the Chooks to Go MPBL Lakan season for personal reasons, wants to make up for lost time with the General Santos Warriors, who are number 7 on the rise in the playoffs the South Division from next week.
"I'll be here for the playoffs and hopefully we can do a run for the championship," said the 6-foot-2 veteran of the NBA G-League, who delivered 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds to The Warriors picked up the seventh seed at the Caloocan Sports Complex on Wednesday evening with an 85:80 win over Nueva Ecija. "Whoever we play, we'll be ready."
The Warriors switched from one of the top teams in the South Division to a squad that needed a late push for the playoffs. There they meet the second Bacoor Strikers – the same team that eliminated them in the first round last year.
"I mean, we have to look at things game by game and see what happens," said Williams, who is being stopped by ex-PBA players Rob Celiz and Pamboy Raymundo.
“But we will come in prepared. I have great teammates and pretty good players around me. "
The other first-round best-of-three playoff matchups in the South Division are Davao Occidental against Bicol, Basilan No. 3 against Iloilo No. 6 and Batangas No. 4 against Zamboanga in fifth place.
On the North Division playoff picture, San Juan hosts Pasay in the first round. Manila holds home trial against Pasig; Makati No. 3 against Bulacan No. 6 and Pampanga with fourth seed fight against Bataan No. 5.
