With fresh support from a leading global brand and a number of Southeast Asian Games venues, the Philippine Football League (PFL) will open a bigger and better season in 2020. Qatar Airways' sponsorship announced last month is the first time that a large international company supports the league in its fourth season.
Six clubs from last season – led by triple champions Ceres Negros – are about to return. The PFL officials are aiming to add more teams for the next season, which is due to start in March.
The president of the Filipino Football Association, Mariano "Nonong" Araneta, stressed that television coverage for the league, which sought to get supporters and sponsors in the first three seasons, will be a priority.
"We are ready to give the league more thrust with a big sponsor," said Araneta.
