Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino, who won Team Canada's gold at the 2020 World Junior Championships, offers his top dishes from the eventful tournament:
Who is number one?
Despite missing two games, Alexis Lafreniere was named MVP of the tournament with 10 points in the five games he played. Lafreniere also had two helpers in the finals and had doubts about who should be number 1 in June.
It was a little risky when Mark and Dale Hunter teamed up with Canada, Shawn Bullock and Brad McEwen. The hunters are hockey athletes and do not deviate from their business activities, which do not always correspond to the corporate division.
The London Knights often draw the anger of their OHL colleagues because they attract top players and consequently bring a winning product onto the ice. Dale Hunter's coaching success is believed to be a product of the good teams he needs to coach. Defeating the youngest Canadian team of all time with two internationally inexperienced goalkeepers and winning gold says a lot about his coaching acumen.
In the scouting world, the general opinion was that Fagemo was the best improved player in Sweden in the 2018/19 season. He led the tournament with goals (eight) and points (13) in its further development as one of the future pieces of LA Kings.
Some WHL people approached me to say how good he was in the WHL for Portland. You were not wrong. After seeing a large number of shots with Swift Current before going to Portland to take risky chances, he was successful as the tournament's best goalkeeper.
The next great Russian child prodigy fought during the tournament and did not start the game for the gold medal. Askarov ended the tournament with an average of 2.71 goals and a saving of 0.876 percent in five games. Will this tournament affect its draft status?

The Toronto Maple Leafs property gave a good indication of why the Leafs are so high on him. It is good that Kyle Dubas released him from the AHL and had the experience of playing a leading role with his fellow countrymen who won the bronze medal.
The prospect of Pittsburgh over the Lethbridge cyclones was brilliant in the final with three helpers on the way to a nine point tournament, second best of all defenders with a point behind Sandin.
It is always a risky undertaking when NHL players are loaned to their country's WJC teams. The Arizona Coyotes are happy that Hayton has experienced the tense situation of winning a gold medal, but due to a shoulder injury, his return schedule may be up in the air.
Mishaps on duty
Team Canada had to face a number of challenges, including its worst loss to date (0: 6 against Russia), a head-butt block against Joe Veleno, one Knee injuries from Lafreniere and a shoulder injury from Hayton. The Canadians did everything and showed up golden.
The Charlottetown Islanders were well represented by Nikita Aoexandrov, who was recognized as the best Russian gold medalist. Alexandrov had a goal and an assist in the 4-3 loss. He finished seven games with eight points in an achievement that won the silver medal.
It was interesting to see Professor Igor Larionov behind the Russian bench as an assistant coach for this tournament. It shows you how important the event is in Russia. Larionov left a successful run as a player agent to work for the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
All Swedes without finishing
The Swedes have completed 13 consecutive years (52 games) without losing in the pool game. However, this only led to a gold medal (2012) – the Swedes needed overtime to improve Russia in this gold medal game. A bronze finish is fine, but in six out of 13 cases, the Swedes have not won a medal at all.
Kudos to the host country Czech Republic for the great support of the event. The enthusiasm of the fans and the general willingness to spend a good time are the perfect setting for the holiday season. A total of over 173,000 spectators attended the games.
With players like Moritz Seider, Lukas Reichel, John Peterka and Tim Stutzle
the Germans managed to keep Kahakstan in the top group for the next year.
Speaking of Germans
Tim Stutzle did not play in the final but still had five assists in the tournament. He had a great season in Mannheim and his tournament game certainly helped make it a top 10 selection in June.
He has disappeared
It will be interesting to see which CHL players end up where after they return from the Czech Republic.
The music alone would have kept me out of the box.
